Tina Peters, the 70-year-old former Mesa County, Colorado elections clerk who was thrown in prison for daring to question the security of Dominion Voting Systems machines, walked out of a Colorado prison on June 1. Democrats are absolutely apoplectic. You love to see it.
Apparently releasing a senior citizen from prison is now a threat to democracy. These people.
Peters was convicted in 2024 on charges related to breaching county election voting systems in 2021 — her crime being that she wanted to preserve and examine data from the Dominion machines used in the 2020 election. You know, the election where Joe Biden supposedly hauled in 81 million votes and nobody was allowed to look too closely at the receipts. A Colorado judge sentenced her to 9 years in prison. Nine years. For a nonviolent records offense committed by a grandmother.
But here's where it gets interesting. Colorado Governor Jared Polis — a Democrat, mind you — commuted her sentence to 4.5 years on May 15, 2026, making her eligible for parole in June. Polis explained his reasoning: "She committed a crime. What's an issue here is how long the sentence is... I agree with the appeals court that in the sentencing hearing, the judge incorrectly looked at and considered her bizarre viewpoints, her speech, and held her speech against her."
Read that again. Even the Democratic governor of Colorado admitted the judge punished Peters for her opinions, not just her actions. The sentence was political. Everyone knows it. Polis just said the quiet part out loud.
The left lost its collective mind anyway.
Nearly 800 Democrats signed a formal complaint, and the Colorado Democratic Party officially censured Governor Polis on May 20, 2026 — censured their own governor — for having the audacity to reduce a 70-year-old woman's prison sentence. That's where we are. The party of "criminal justice reform" and "mass incarceration is racist" threw a tantrum because a grandmother wasn't going to rot behind bars long enough for their liking.
9NEWS journalist Kyle Clark was among the media voices amplifying the outrage, because of course the Colorado press was going to treat this like the fall of civilization rather than a routine commutation.
President Trump weighed in with characteristic subtlety: "God Bless Tina Peters, who is now, for two years out of nine, sitting in a Colorado Maximum Security Prison, at the age of 73... FREE TINA PETERS!" He got his wish.
Peters herself kept it classy upon release, as reported by RedState: "It's been quite the ordeal, but I really want to thank God for faithfulness and getting me through it... I'm so grateful to the supporters that have stood with me."
No bitterness. No revenge tour. Just gratitude. Meanwhile, the people who wanted her locked up forever are the ones seething and screaming.
That tells you everything you need to know about who the real authoritarians are in this country. Democrats didn't want Tina Peters in prison because she broke a law. They wanted her in prison because she asked a question they didn't want answered. She was supposed to be the example — the warning shot to anyone else who thought about looking under the hood of our election machinery.
She's out. They're furious. America wins.
