Psaki Tries To Be Biden’s Knight In Shining Armor — Fails Miserably

WH Press Secretary Jen Psaki has accused the GOP of defunding the police — after “Defund the Police” became the rallying cry for progressives in 2020 and hurt Democrats’ appeal with moderates.

Republicans voted against Biden’s American Rescue Plan, which was enacted in March, even though it had $350 billion for state and local governments that might be used for local police.

“Something the advisers, Cedric Richmond, he said the GOP defunded the police by not voting for the American Rescue Plan,” Fox News’ Peter Doocy said to Psaki this Monday. “But how is this an argument when Biden never spoke about needing funds for police to stop crime when he was pushing the American Rescue Plan?”

“Well, President Biden did say that the American Rescue Plan, the local and state funding, something that was supported by many Democrats who supported the bill, could help make sure that local cops were kept on the beat. It did not get a single Republican vote,” Psaki said.

“At the time, it was said that local police depts. could have covid-related funding shortfalls, not that we need to keep cops on the beat because there is increasing crime,” Doocy said.

“I believe any local dept. would say that keeping cops on the beat to keep cities and communities safe, because of budget problems, fire police is something that helped them deal with the crime in their local areas,” Psaki said, later saying that “it was a pretty good bill and legislation.”

Over seven in 10 people believe crime is going up nationally during escalating crime in top American cities and FBI warnings going out for local law enforcement to prepare for upticks during the summer.

This is according to a Fox News poll put out on May 26 and done through May 22 and 25. The poll revealed that compared to 2020, a majority believes crime is increasing both across the nation (73 percent), and in their local areas (54 percent).
