Lawmakers Strip Cuomo Of Power As Scandals Continue To Mount

The problems for New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo only continue to mount. Who would have thought a man once so beloved by the left that they wanted him to run for president would now be so in the dog house? Close on the heels of his nursing home scandal (which has only just started to break) are numerous accusations of sexual harassment.

Lawmakers from the state have been vocal about Cuomo’s behavior. As you can imagine, Republicans quickly called for impeachment investigations. Others demanded Cuomo just resign in disgrace. Only after a third (and possible fourth) woman revealed Cuomo acted inappropriately toward her, did Democrats start to chime in.

Recently, liberal lawmakers from the state began talking about Cuomo resigning. The state AG is launching her own investigation into the harassment allegations. Now, as things are boiling over, the state has stripped Cuomo of his emergency powers.

New York Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie announced on Tuesday that they have reached an agreement to strip Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo of the emergency powers that he was given during the pandemic which comes as he faces two political scandals that threaten to end his political career…

“The public deserves to have checks and balances. Our proposal would create a system with increased input while at the same time ensuring New Yorkers continue to be protected.”…

Like many other states, New York gave their governor “emergency powers” during the COVID panic, which allowed him to pass drastic changes without oversight or accountability. It was a terrible idea, as power-hunger governors—driven by fear and over-inflated egos—shut down businesses, schools, and erode American liberties.

Only now is the legislature of New York saying they need “checks and balances” again, after nearly a year of Cuomo ruling the state like a dictator. But don’t be fooled. They are not doing it because they think the pandemic is under control. They are doing this because they are trying to throw Cuomo to the wolves.

If they were really worried about protecting the balance of government, they would have never given Cuomo unlimited power for an entire year. They are only rescinding it now as a form of rebuke over his growing scandals.

It wouldn’t look very good for the state to keep letting Cuomo wield those powers, after he’s was outed for covering up nursing homes deaths, facing an FBI investigation, and is being hammered by numerous sexual harassment accusations. These New York Democrats are trying to save their own skins by sacrificing the governor.

It’s something that rarely happens among Democrats, but when it does, look out. Nobody is safe who sticks close to the governor. When he goes down, he might take many people with him. So, the scum that faithfully served him for years (giving him those emergency powers gladly) are now abandoning ship.

But we’ll see if it’s only Cuomo whose career is destroyed.
