Texas Governor Abbott ordered the state National Guard to start arresting immigrants caught illegally walking over the state’s border with Mexico.
Abbott detailed his order in a message to Major General Tracy Norris, of the State National Guard, ordering the guard to help the Texas Dept. of Public Safety (DPS) in capturing and arresting illegals.
“Starting on May 31, 2021, I have given numerous proclamations certifying that under Section 418.014 of the Texas Code that the increase of individuals unlawfully going over the Texas-Mexico border are an ongoing threat of disaster for agencies in this State,” Abbott said. “To reply to this disaster and protect our Southern border, more people are needed — on top of the troopers from the Texas Dept. of Public Safety (DPS) and troops from the state National Guard I have already put there — and DPS needs aid in arresting illegals who violate state law.”
“By virtue of the authority vested in me, I hereby direct the Texas National Guard to help DPS in enforcing State law by arresting these lawbreakers at our border,” he said.
As Abbott tries to crack down on illegals moving into the country, Biden is struggling to deal with a flood of illegals coming in from Mexico. This week, news came out that his administration let around 50,000 illegals into the country without scheduling when their asylum claims would be heard in court.
Arizona Governor Doug Ducey and Abbott issued a joint call back in June requesting help from other states in protecting their border. A handful of Republican-led states have replied to the governors’ request, such as Florida and South Dakota, sending National Guard troops to the border states to help with border enforcement.
“Protecting our border is the government’s responsibility. But the Biden admin. has proven it is not willing or able to do this job,” the governors said in their June 10 letter. “Their failure to enforce immigration laws causes problems that spill over to harm every State.”
This comes at a time when President Biden’s approval rating is already plummeting because of the immigration and open border issue.
