For many years, conservative Americans looked to Fox News for “fair and balanced” coverage. The rest of the mainstream media was infested with a liberal bias. But Fox News apparently provided Republicans with news that wasn’t tainted by spin.
My, how things have changed.
In the aftermath of the 2020 Election, it seems the scales are falling off many Americans’ eyes. Fox News quickly called the race for Biden, even though numerous states were conducting audits and recounts. Notable Fox News hosts, like Neil Cavuto (a noted Trump hater), deliberately covered up reports of possible fraud.
(And that comes after Fox News’ Chris Wallace’s dismal first debate performance.)
It seems Americans suddenly realized that their “conservative” news outlet was any but. In the months that followed the election, there appeared to be a mass exodus, as viewers switch to alternative news sources, such as online outlets and Newsmax.
Fox News has felt the pain. Their ratings—once the very top of cable news—are in the toilet. For the first time since 2000 (that’s twenty years), they are trailing both CNN and MSNBC—the laughing stocks of the MSM.
Now, it looks like the channel is trying to do damage control, but cutting the department they might blame for all this mess.
Nearly 20 Fox News Digital staffers were laid off Tuesday, including political editor Chris Stirewalt, who worked on the network’s decision desk for the 2020 presidential election…
“Stirewalt sat on the Fox News decision desk,” she added, “which has come under fire for its early call on Arizona election night.”…
“As we conclude the 2020 election cycle, Fox News Digital has realigned its business and reporting structure to meet the demands of this new era,” a Fox News spokesperson said in a statement, according to The Wrap. “We are confident these changes will ensure the platform continues to deliver breakthrough reporting and insightful analysis surrounding major issues, both stateside and abroad.” [Source: Daily Wire]
It’s possible Fox News is trying to ax the people they think started the ratings slide. Chris Stirewalt was leading the “decision desk” on Election Night—where the problems all seemed to start. And these other layoffs could be those who worked with Stirewalt and helped contribute to this mess.
But they’re going to have to do much more, if they are going to win back viewers. Fox News’ slide began long before November. They cowered to the leftist mob for years, firing iconic hosts like Bill O’Reilly over threats of boycotts. In recent years, they’ve given time to many outspoken Democrats and anti-Trumpers, including former DNC Donna Brazille.
Rumors have always swirled that Fox News was really liberal-leaning; it is run by liberals in its offices in New York. Its reputation for being “conservative” could have been a front, just to boost their ratings.
Whatever the case may be, it looks like they won’t be enjoying the top news spot anymore.
