Facebook Buries The Most Viral Story Of 2021, Guess What It’s About?

Facebook buried data revealing that a story reported in mainstream news about the death of a healthy doctor after taking the Pfizer’s vaccine was the top-viewed on their platform in Q1 of 2021, according to a report by the NY Times.

According to remarks a Facebook spokesperson made to the Times, the social network removed the data so it could perform “fixes” first — it is not clear what those “fixes” were.

From the NY Times:

“Facebook had created a similar chart for the first quarter of the year, but executives never published it to the public due to concerns that it would give bad press, according to internal messages sent by executives and given to The NY Times.”

“In that report, which was given to The Times, the most-viewed link was an article which featured a headline that suggested that the covid vaccine was behind the death of a Florida doctor.”

“We considered allowing this report to go public earlier,” said a spokesman for Facebook, “but since we understood the type of focus it would get, exactly as we witnessed this week, there were fixes to the system we wished to make.”

The vaccine story that was at the top of Facebook’s charts for the first few months of 2021 was a news report from the Sun-Sentinel news outlet in Florida about a healthy doctor who passed away after taking Pfizer’s vaccine.

From the South Florida Sun-Sentinel:

“Two weeks after he got his first dose of the Pfizer vaccine, a 56yo doctor in Florida passed away in Jan., possibly the country’s first death connected to the vaccine.”

“Health officials from the CDC and Florida are reviewing what role, if any, the vaccine had in the death of Dr. Gregory Michael, an obstetrician in Miami who, his family reports, was in otherwise great health.”

“Michael got his Pfizer vaccine on December 18th at the Mount Sinai Medical Center, reported his wife, Heidi Neckelmann.”

The Sun Sentinel’s news story was later updated with the findings of the medical examiner, who stated that there wasn’t enough evidence to decide if the vaccine was or was not the cause of death or a factor that led to the death.
