Atlanta Mayor Blames Everything But Herself For Rising Crime

All across America, in large blue cities, crime has been skyrocketing. And the numbskulls who run these cities can’t understand why.

I can clue them in on the situation.

Since last Summer, Democrats have embraced a radical agenda known as the “defund the police movement.” Liberals in large cities have endorsed various policies that make it harder for cops to keep their cities safe. If they aren’t openly slashing PD budgets (leading to fewer cops, less training, and inadequate resources), they are pushing other laws that reward criminals.

The city of Atlanta, GA is no exception. It is led by Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms. All throughout last Summer, it was one of the ground zeroes, where Black Lives Matter, Antifa, and other radical leftist groups staged riots. They spread destruction across the city. And how did the mayor’s office respond?

Let’s say they didn’t increase the police’s budget. And now, the mayor is blaming everyone and everything, but herself.

Atlanta Democratic Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms claims that Republicans in the statehouse who voted to lift Georgia’s COVID-19 restrictions contributed to the soaring crime rate in her city…

The mayor also said “COVID left a lot of people battered and bruised, not just physically but also emotionally.”

“Until we deal with the systemic issues of gun violence in this country, how easily young people, people with mental illnesses can access guns in this country, I’m afraid that this will not be the last summer that we are having this conversation,” Bottoms said. [Source: Daily Wire]

Wait a minute, Ms. Mayor. Was it the COVID restrictions being lifted that led to crime—or a lack of gun control?

Maybe it was the Summer heat? Or the lack of good movies in theaters? Perhaps it all these criminals just couldn’t get into restaurants?

Or perhaps it was because Bottoms, like most Democrats, is putting criminals ahead of law-abiding citizens?

It’s pretty hard to believe that the lifting of abusive, unconstitutional restrictions led to a rise in crime. She is basically saying that the only thing stopping criminals from hurting residents was the fact they were all staying home. Um… not a good strategy, Bottoms. You do know the restrictions would have eventually been lifted, right?

Whether it was last month or two weeks ago, people had to leave their houses sometimes. Which means, the criminals would have still done what they do best, break the law.

Does Bottoms really think we’re buying that load of garbage? The only thing that discourages crime are laws that are actually enforced. Good cops who work hard to keep our cities safe are what prevent criminals from getting out of control.

Even local, liberal-leaning newspapers called out Bottom’s lack of leadership. The Journal-Constitution criticized the mayor for refusing to be “visible in this fight.” They called on her to appear at crime scenes. To condemn these acts of violence. Show the city that she supports law enforcement and law-abiding citizens.

But she won’t do that… so I doubt this problem will be solved while she’s still in office.
