America was shocked last week after a gunman opened fire on a New York City subway train. The man, who is now in police custody, injured at least 30 people, some who ended up in critical condition. The media has tried to downplay the event—which is now being considered a terrorist attack—because the gunman was a black man who posted racist content online.
This event has not only shaken the city, but opened people’s eyes to what might happen if Democrats fully got their way. It’s no secret many progressive Democrats have called for the defunding of police. In New York, they slashed the NYPD’s budget by $1 billion. This, as the city, suffered a spike in violent crime. Now, we are learning these very same progressives demanded fewer police in NYC subways.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her progressive colleagues from New York argued against increasing the police presence in New York City’s subway system in a 2019 letter.
“In our view, desperately needed resources would be better invested in subway, bus, maintenance and service improvements,” the letter sent to former Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) said. “We are urging the MTA to divest from this current model of criminalization.”
The letter was written in response to Cuomo’s plan to hire additional police officers to patrol the subways to deal with widespread violence and fare evasion. However, Cuomo’s plan was ultimately put on hold when the coronavirus pandemic hit in early 2020.
AOC’s letter is under increased scrutiny after a shooter shot and injured at least 30 people on a New York subway. The letter cited “historic racial disparities in enforcement” and said an increased police presence would harm “communities of color.” [Source: Breitbart]
So, far-left Democrat AOC and her colleagues pushed to reduce the number of cops in NYC subways just a few years ago. Now, we have to ask if this directly impacted what transpired last week, when a gunman attacked people in a train car.
We have to begin asking hard questions about AOC and other anti-police Democrats. Are they deliberately trying to hurt Americans? These progressives claimed more cops would harm “communities of color.” Um… I think a maniac with a smoke grenade and gun hurt them much more.
Why are Democrats so determined to reduce the number of people protecting regular Americans? Keep in mind, that these same politicians enjoy private security—nearly 24/7. They don’t have to worry about rising crime because they often live in gated communities with security systems.
We can suggest that AOC and others wanted to divert police funds to their much-loved social programs. Hey, you gotta pay for Marxism, somehow. But I think it’s more than that. It seems these radical socialists are deliberately trying to spread crime and fear. Because the worse things get in NYC—and everywhere else—the more likely Americans will be to hand over more power to the government.
How much longer before we’re a Marxist state, without even knowing it?
