A Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Just Quit the Democratic Party Over Antisemitism — And Fetterman Says He Gets It

Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice David Wecht has formally left the Democratic Party, and his exit statement wasn't some mealy-mouthed "I need time to reflect" press release — it was a flamethrower aimed directly at his former party's tolerance of Jew-hatred. Wecht announced his departure on May 11 via Politico, and within hours, Senator John Fetterman was publicly backing the move, because apparently the Democratic Party's antisemitism problem is now so obvious that even sitting members can't pretend it away.

When you're losing judges — not voters, not donors, not cable news pundits, but judges on the state Supreme Court — your party isn't having a "messaging problem." It's rotting from the inside.

Wecht didn't mince words. "Nazi tattoos, jihadist chants, intimidation and attacks at synagogues, and other hateful anti-Jewish invective and actions are minimized, ignored, and even coddled," the justice wrote. "Acquiescence to Jew-hatred is now disturbingly common among activists, leaders and even many elected officials in the Democratic Party. I can no longer abide this." That's not a disgruntled voter venting on social media. That's a sitting state Supreme Court justice saying the quiet part out loud, on the record, with his name on it.

This isn't some newcomer, either. David Wecht served as Vice-Chair of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party from 1998 to 2001. He was elected to the state Supreme Court in 2015. This man spent decades building his career inside the party, and he just walked out the front door and told everyone why.

Fetterman, to his credit, didn't run from it. "I know David and his legendary father, Cyril," the senator posted on X. "As I've affirmed, I'm not changing my party — but I fully understand David's personal choice. The Democratic Party must confront its own rising antisemitism problem." There it is. A sitting Democratic U.S. senator admitting the party has a "rising antisemitism problem." Not Republicans saying it. Not Fox News saying it. Fetterman.

And this isn't new ground for the senator from Pennsylvania. Back in April, Fetterman told Laura Ingraham on Fox News, "As Democrats continue to abandon Israel, I'll be the last man standing if that's what's necessary." Bold words from a guy whose own party is reportedly planning a primary challenge against him in 2028 for the crime of not hating Jewish people.

Now, Wecht himself acknowledged that his departure will have "minimal impact on the balance of power in the state's Supreme Court." Fine. This was never about one seat. It's about what it signals. When a man who chaired your state party apparatus and sat on your highest court looks around the room and says "I can't do this anymore," the problem isn't him.

The Democratic Party has spent the last two years telling us their antisemitism problem is a "right-wing talking point." A manufactured controversy. A distraction. Well, Justice Wecht just made it a resignation letter. And Fetterman just cosigned it.

Good luck spinning that one at the next DNC fundraiser.
