This election year, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have found themselves up against an unexpected opponent—an increasingly vocal left-wing coalition that supports Palestine and is staunchly anti-Israel. This isn’t just another protest.
It’s an escalating campaign against Democrats, led by a radical faction that’s shaken Biden’s re-election bid and put Harris in a tough spot. Their message? They’re no longer content to quietly back Democrats while they negotiate Middle East policy with Israel’s interests in mind.
And it’s not just Biden facing the heat; Kamala Harris has taken the brunt of this left-wing ire as well. This group’s demands are clear: shift the U.S. stance on Israel, or else. The administration’s response? Radio silence.
The Democrats haven’t moved to push back against these anti-Israel, pro-Palestinian radicals, even as they grow bolder. Some of these radicals, it seems, are now going to extremes that are nothing short of shocking.
Devices recovered at two ballot box fires in the Pacific Northwest reportedly both contained pro-Palestinian messaging, according to The New York Times.
The words “Free Gaza,” were emblazoned on the devices that presumably caused the fires Monday in Portland, Oregon, and Vancouver, Washington, an anonymous source within the Portland Police Department (PPD) told The New York Times. Just this week, a bizarre incident in the Pacific Northwest raised alarms. According to a New York Times report, two ballot box fires—one in Portland, Oregon, and the other in Vancouver, Washington—were linked to devices carrying pro-Palestinian messages. Both devices were emblazoned with the phrase “Free Gaza,” an apparent nod to the broader, charged discourse around the Israel-Palestine conflict.
Portland Police believe these incidents are connected, though they’ve kept details close to the chest. Mike Benner, spokesperson for the Portland Police Bureau, confirmed enough evidence was found at both scenes to suggest coordination but has been cautious about speculating on motives.
Nevertheless, it doesn’t take much to connect the dots: a string of protests and violent outbursts have followed Hamas’s October 7 attack on Israel, including some pro-Palestinian demonstrations that turned disruptive. Is this the new face of radical left-wing activism?
In Portland, fortunately, most ballots survived the flames, thanks to a fire suppression system in the ballot box. Vancouver wasn’t so lucky; hundreds of ballots were reduced to ash, raising concerns about election security and how much further these anti-Israel radicals might go. Washington and Oregon may not be battleground states in the presidential race, but the stakes are still high.
Portland is selecting a new mayor, and nearby in Southwest Washington, Democrat Marie Perez faces off with Republican Joe Kent in a tight congressional race. Just last election, Perez narrowly defeated Kent by a razor-thin 3,000 votes.
With hundreds of ballots lost and voter concerns mounting, local authorities have taken action. Clark County, Washington, has placed observers at 22 ballot drop sites around the clock.
Any voter who placed a ballot in these boxes has been asked to request a replacement. Forensics teams are analyzing the devices, searching for identifying markings or unique symbols, but the police have yet to publicly comment on their findings.
These incidents may be isolated to the Pacific Northwest for now, but they serve as a stark warning. Democrats have, up until now, largely ignored this anti-Israel faction on the left.
But with actions like these, is it safe for them to keep their distance? The Biden-Harris team may find that staying silent on these fringe supporters could cost them at the polls. It’s not just about optics anymore. It’s a question of security, of control, and ultimately, of principle. For many Jewish voters and pro-Israel Democrats, this lack of a stance is starting to feel like a betrayal.
In response to these incidents, Biden and Harris have yet to address the pro-Palestinian messaging attached to the ballot box fires. But the longer they remain silent, the more vulnerable they look.
This radical faction isn’t just turning up the pressure—they’re exposing a divide in the Democratic base that Republicans are all too happy to highlight.
Let’s face it: these radical left-wing activists pose a real problem for Democrats. With a significant faction openly hostile toward Israel, it’s hard for the party to maintain a unified front.
And if pro-Palestinian radicals are willing to go so far as ballot box fires, what else might they be willing to do? Some in the GOP are already calling for the administration to take a harder stance against this group. Biden and Harris’s refusal to acknowledge, much less condemn, these incidents might just embolden radicals further.
One thing is clear: if Democrats continue to ignore this growing radical influence within their ranks, it won’t just be about politics. It’ll be about security, community, and trust in the electoral process.
